A Knoxville man is facing multiple charges after a drive-by shooting early Tuesday morning ended with him accidentally shooting himself.

Police responded to reports of gunfire on N. Grant Street around 2:12 a.m., with Ring camera footage capturing a vehicle firing shots while driving by. Minutes later, Peyton Lee Cole Phillips showed up at the Knoxville Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Investigators linked Phillips to the vehicle seen in the footage and determined he fired the weapon from the passenger seat, striking himself. Officers recovered a firearm, shell casings, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle. A nearby home was also hit by a bullet, though no injuries were reported.

Phillips was arrested and charged with multiple felonies and misdemeanors, including Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and Reckless Use of a Firearm.
