The Knoxville Public Library is now offering memory kits designed to support individuals living with dementia and their caregivers. The kits are part of a statewide initiative from the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Program at the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.
Each kit contains a collection of sensory activities and reading materials aimed at engaging people at various stages of dementia. The activities are thoughtfully chosen to stimulate memory, encourage conversation, and provide comfort. In addition to games and tactile objects, the kits include books that explain the disease and offer practical tips for care partners.
Library Director [insert name if known] said the goal of the program is to provide meaningful tools to help families connect with their loved ones.
“These memory kits are a great way to support families facing the challenges of dementia,” said [Last Name]. “We hope they will provide not only stimulation for those living with the disease but also relief and guidance for their caregivers.”
The memory kits are available for checkout and can be found near the library’s puzzles and magazines section. Community members are encouraged to explore the kits and see how they might benefit someone they care for.
