The market news manager for the Missouri Department of Agriculture says feed costs have remained relatively inexpensive.
Tony Hancock tells Brownfield there’s an excellent supply of hay. “Corn prices are pretty cheap, and feed is abundant,” he says. “Luckily, that’s not been a real issue.”
He says that’s good news as Missouri cattle producers have been battling bitterly cold temperatures and some winter weather extremes. “There’s been a lot of hay fed,” he says.
He says despite the recent decline in hay prices, Missouri’s hay market continues to outperform sales in other states. That has resulted in an uptick of hay being trucked in from neighboring states to be sold.
