There’s a sign from the Trump administration that year-round E15 use is coming.
The President signed an executive order declaring an energy emergency which included allowing E15 use in the summertime.
Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper tells Brownfield it’s a welcome start. “It’s good to know that the new administration is already thinking about this or already prepared to issue emergency waivers, if those waivers are necessary.”
Cooper says ideally, Congress would pass and forward to President Trump a permanent legislative answer so the industry doesn’t have to wonder if the rules will change with every new administration. “If you’re a retail gas station owner that’s considering selling E15, you’re not going to be pinning all of your hopes on an emergency waiver. You are going to want the certainty that you can sell that fuel year-round from here on out, and the only way to do that is through legislation.”
Cooper says there are other issues the industry is watching as the new Trump administration settles in, including a Biden EPA proposal to change renewable volume obligations less than a year after setting them, and the future of 45Z tax credits that could help grow the sustainable aviation fuel industry.
