Donald Douglas Rowland, 89, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 12:17 a.m. October 6, 2024 at Hospice House in Ottumwa.
He was born December 29, 1934 in Lick Skillet, Putnam County, MO to Jennings “Jinks” Bryan and Loeta Mae Smith Rowland. He married Patricia Anne Hinkle in 1953 and they later divorced. He married Diana Theresa Greiner on June 10, 1988 and she preceded him in death on December 31, 1997.
Growing up in Ottumwa, he worked delivering ice as a young man and graduated from Ottumwa High School. He worked for Iowa Southern Utilities, starting out shoveling coal in Eddyville. Don worked as a lineman in Chariton, in the office in Washington and as District Manager of Ottumwa, retiring in October of 1996.
Don was a social member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and had been a member of Rotary Club of Ottumwa and Ottumwa Noon Lions. He had served as a Scout leader, served on the Red Cross Ottumwa Board and served on various committees with the City of Ottumwa and throughout the community.
Don loved to fish and enjoyed hunting.
Surviving are his children, Wayne (Joyce) Rowland of Newton, Doug Rowland of Chariton, Bryan (Dian) Rowland of Chariton, Gary Taylor of Wichita, KS and Theresa Jones of Agency; daughter-in-law, Barb Rowland of Ames; grandchildren, Carroll “ C.J.” Curtis, of Appleton, WI, Miranda Vander Heiden of Baxter, Lindsay Rowland, Nicholas (Brandy) Rowland of Russell, Kristin Benton of Chariton, Jesica Rowland of Ames, Austin (Mykenzey) Rowland of Ames, Jordyn Taylor of Wichita, KS, Brandon Taylor of Wichita, KS, Kerringtyn Jones of Knoxville and Max Jones of Agency; 7 great- grandchildren; 2 great-great grandsons; brothers, Pat (Vicki) Rowland of Fremont, CA and Ron (Carlene) Rowland of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Paul Rowland; and a sister, Jennie Lee Cutts.
Visitation will be open at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 9th at Reece Funeral Home with family present to greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, October 10th at Reece Funeral Home with Deacon Ray Doud officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
