Ronald David Weeks, 87, of Ottumwa, died October 6, 2024 at his home.
He was born December 2, 1936 in Wapello County, at home on Cliffland Rd. to Colbert J. and Eva Lavena Wheeler Weeks. He married Janice Fairchild June 30, 1956 and later divorced. He married Patricia Crumes August 8, 1982 and later divorced.
Having attended Agassiz, Stuart and for one year Bloomfield High School, Ron graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1955. On July 12, 1955 he started work for George Zika at Ottumwa Bridge and Construction where he continued for 10 ½ years. On November 12, 1965 he started as a fireman with the Ottumwa Fire Department. After almost 35 years, he retired in 2000. Through his career, he worked 6 years at Ottumwa Boiler Works, owned and operated C & W Boiler Repair until the mid 1990’s. After selling the company, he continued to work for the new owners until 2013.
Ron was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed hunting for mushrooms, attending bluegrass festivals, watching westerns and berry picking. He owned several classic vehicles throughout the years but was especially proud of his ’51 Chevy pickup and Model A. He enjoyed attending car shows and was a member of the Model A Club.
Surviving are his 3 daughters, Natalie Thomas of Fairfax, IA, Marquetta (Dave) Huffman of Ottumwa and Tracy (Scott) Crumes-Kirubakaran of Ottumwa; 5 step-children, Kim Showman, Tammy Westfall, Randy Crumes, Leslie Beard and Marti (Stu) Crumes Morrow; 10 grandchildren; Eric (Jennifer) Thomas, Benjamin (Kristie) Thomas, Matthew Thomas, Alex (Shayla) Huffman, Hannah Huffman, Noah Huffman, Zarren Kirubakaran, Zane Kirubakaran, Jake Young and Sasha Crumes; 4 great grandchildren, Tony, Gracie, Mason and Daylen; twin great great grandchildren; a brother, Leland (Sharon) Weeks; a sister, Carol (Kenneth) Sheldon both of Ottumwa; as well as a special friend, Louise Frymoyer.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Weeks; two brothers, William and Harmand Weeks; 4 sisters, Constance Clark, Bonnie Bolin, Colberta Penrod and Charlotte Collins.
Visitation will be open at 10 a.m. Thursday October 10th at Reece Funeral Home with his family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday October 11th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. Members of the Ottumwa Fire Department will serve as Honor Guard. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
