OPD: Intoxicated Woman Attempted to Flee Auto Accident

An Ottumwa woman allegedly lost control of her vehicle while driving intoxicated.

21-year-old Sara Nupp was charged with Operating While Intoxicated, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Driving While Revoked.

On June 18, Ottumwa police say Nupp was driving a vehicle while intoxicated and lost control and went off the road at the intersection of Highway 34 and Quincy Ave.

Police say a witness saw Nupp in the drivers seat attempting to drive the damaged vehicle. According to court records, Nupp’s license was revoked this past May for refusal of an OWI test.

According to police, Nupp had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, unsteady balance, and had rapid emotional shifts. Authorities say an open container of alcohol was inside of her vehicle. Additionally, she refused a standardized field sobriety test and chemical testing. Law enforcement searched Nupp’s purse and allegedly found a plastic bag containing 3 grams of marijuana.

Nupp is being held at the Wapello County Jail.
