The Ottumwa Police Department released the name of the man involved in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 34 Saturday night.
Sergeant Cody McCoy told Ottumwa Radio News that 34-year-old Kevin Wick of Ottumwa was riding a motorcycle eastbound on Highway 34 when he lost control and slammed against the guardrail on the south side of the road.
Wicks was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the highway. The motorcycle continued eastbound, came to rest, and caught on fire.
McCoy says Wicks sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash. He was transported to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines and later transferred to Iowa City. His current status is unknown.
McCoy says the accident remains under investigation.
