A widespread power outage is currently affecting much of Fairfield, with traffic signals throughout the city not functioning, according to a social media post from the Fairfield Police Department.
The Fairfield Police Department is reminding drivers to treat every intersection with a non-working traffic signal as a four-way stop. Motorists are asked to slow down and use extra caution throughout the affected areas.
Social media reports indicate outages have also been reported in surrounding areas including Libertyville and Birmingham, though some residents have reported their power has since been restored.
Power outages should be reported directly to Alliant Energy. The Fairfield Police Department said it will provide additional information as it becomes available.
