Cynthia “Cindy” Jackson, age 71, of rural Rose Hill, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at The Manor House in Sigourney, Iowa, under hospice care for metastatic lung cancer and surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 6, 1953, the daughter of Richard “Dick” and Vivian “Jean” (Beasley) McCreery in Ottumwa, Iowa. She attended Oskaloosa High School and graduated with the Class of 1971. She continued her education at Iowa State University for a year until transferring to Indian Hills to fulfill her calling of being a nurse. She attended Indian Hills in 1973 until graduating in 1975 with her Registered Nurse degree. On July 6, 1974, she was united in marriage to Thomas Jackson in Oskaloosa, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Bryan and Melody.

Cindy worked all of her nursing career at the Mahaska County Hospital for 32 years, retiring in 2009. She was a passionate labor and delivery nurse for 28 of those 32 years, and enjoyed helping all the families throughout the years. At the young age of 17, Cindy accepted Jesus as her personal Savior while attending summer camp. She grew strong in her faith throughout her life and enjoyed sharing her faith with friends, family and acquaintances to help point them to Jesus. She was a very active member of the Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa. Cindy participated in Ladies Bible Study, missions outreach, Sunday School, AWANA, and helped serve meals with the hospitality committee. She loved to sing in the choir and play her guitar over the years. Cindy was also a volunteer at Love. Inc. She enjoyed gardening, crafting, reading novels, and decorating her home for the seasonal changes and holidays. Later in life she and her family enjoyed camping trips to Lake Red Rock and Lake Rathbun; she always looked forward to the yearly tradition of family get togethers at the campground. Cindy was a hands-on mother and grandmother, and formed strong bonds with each of them. She loved attending her children and grandchildren’s activities, such as sports, music events, and livestock shows, or having extended visits with the grandkids as “Granny Nanny”. She also stayed close with her high school Class of ‘71 group and would regularly meet with them for coffeetime or lunch. Cindy loved to smile, laugh, joke, and encouraged those around her.

Cindy is survived by her husband, Tom Jackson of Rose Hill; her children, Bryan (Angie) Jackson and Melody (Kenton) Broadway; her grandchildren, Lauren Jackson, Joelie Broadway, Sawyer Broadway, and Silas Broadway; her brother, Craig (Linda) McCreery and sister, Crystal (Stacey) Swanson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and her mother and father-in-law, William “Mack” and Dorothy Jackson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa with Pastor Rodney DeRonde officiating. Burial will be held at Wymore Cemetery near rural Rose Hill. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the Bates Funeral Chapel beginning after 1:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday evening to greet relatives and guests. Memorials may be made to Love Inc. or Essence of Life Hospice.
