Jeanette L. Farmer, age 87, of rural Delta, Iowa, passed away on January 4, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loved ones under hospice care. She was born on January 3, 1937, in Sigourney, Iowa the daughter of Leslie and Louise (Lowe) Young. She attended Delta High School and graduated with the Class of 1955. On June 26, 1955, she was united in marriage to Kenneth D. Farmer in Delta.
Jeanette was a homemaker for most of her working life. Early in life Jeanette was an active member of the Delta United Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Later she and Kenneth attended Union Chapel Church and Lancaster Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, she looked forward to the produce of her vegetable garden but truly enjoyed the beauty of her flower gardens. She also enjoyed sewing and reading and was a gifted cook. Her family was the center of her life, she enjoyed family get togethers and always looked forward to visits from the grandchildren, great grandchildren, and now great great grandchildren. As long as she was able all of them knew she would be in the crowd of their activities cheering.
She is survived by her husband of over 68 years Kenneth Farmer of Delta; her two sons, Terry (Joyce) Farmer of Delta and Steven (Marge) Farmer of What Cheer; a daughter, Laura Farmer of Sigourney; 12 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; a sister, Sharon (Jim) Jacobs of Delta; and many nieces and nephews.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents, a granddaughter, Amy Graham, and a great granddaughter, Chloe Hadley.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont, Iowa, with Reverend Dirk Alspach officiating. Burial will be in the Tioga Cemetery. The Fremont Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Jeanette’s family and will be divided among her favorite charities.
