James Daniel King, 70, formerly of Ottumwa, died at 3:55 p.m. January 15, 2024 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown where he was a long time resident.
He was born May 18, 1953 in Ottumwa to Lowell D. and Ruth Saner King. He married Marcia Foster and she preceded him in death.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1971-1977. Shortly after his discharge and returning to Ottumwa he was involved in a motorcycle accident that resulted in his brain damage.
Dan enjoyed walking the neighborhood and working on crossword puzzles.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Crystal Duncan, Millard Sanders, Billy Miller, Tarl (Tabitha) King, all of Ottumwa, Holly (Logan) Peterson of Des Moines and Michelle Parada of Ogden, UT; a sister-in-law, Paula King of Messquite, NV.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Terry King, Larry King and Timothy King; a sister, Anita Carmon Gundlach-Sanders; and a nephew, Leland Sanders.
Visitation will be open after 1 p.m. Monday, January 29th at Reece Funeral Home with his family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 30th at Reece Funeral Home with Chaplain Doug McAntire officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military honors conducted by O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
