Mahaska County Conservation is inviting the public to attend an informational presentation about Iowa’s Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund, also known as IWILL.

The presentation, titled “Securing the Promise: Iowa’s Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund,” will take place Thursday, November 19, at 6 p.m. at the Environmental Learning Center, located at 2342 Highway 92 in Oskaloosa.

Guest presenter Dan Cohen, an outdoor writer, wildlife photographer and former director of Buchanan County Conservation, will discuss how IWILL is structured and what its potential funding could mean for communities, landowners and outdoor recreation throughout Iowa.

Cohen was involved in the Iowa’s Water and Land Legacy (IWILL) campaign, which received 63.8% voter approval during the 2010 general election. He also served on county conservation boards from 2006 to 2010 and was part of the Governor-appointed Sustainable Funding Committee that recommended establishing a constitutionally protected Natural Resources and Outdoor Recreation Trust Fund.

For more than 15 years, Cohen has worked to help fulfill the promise of the Trust Fund, supporting efforts involving conservation, water quality, soil protection, wildlife habitat and outdoor recreation.

Organizers say funding IWILL would help protect Iowa’s natural resources and outdoor opportunities for future generations.

The presentation is free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to attend and learn more about the Trust Fund and its potential impact across Iowa.
