The Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce is inviting residents to support local businesses during Small Business Season, running November 1 through December 31, 2026.

This year’s theme is “It’s the Thought That Counts,” a reminder that supporting local doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive — sometimes it’s as simple as choosing a local shop for a gift, recommending a favorite restaurant, sharing a business’s social media post, or telling a friend about a great experience.

Chamber Director Mendy McAdams said the holiday season brings something special to Fairfield.

“Our community really comes alive during the Christmas season. There’s something special about the twinkling lights, familiar faces, festive storefronts, and big smiles that make Fairfield feel like home. So much of that holiday magic comes from our local businesses and the people behind them,” McAdams said. “When we choose to shop locally, recommend a business, or simply show our appreciation, we’re giving something back to the people who give so much to our community. Those dollars stay closer to home, help support local jobs, and make it possible for our businesses to continue doing what they do best. It’s a wonderful way to spread a little extra cheer!”

To make supporting local more fun, the Chamber will have Small Business Season punch cards available throughout the community. Shoppers can collect punches at participating local businesses and turn in a completed card for a chance to win Chamber Bucks. Punch cards will be available at the Chamber office and many local retailers.

The Chamber offered several ways residents can support local businesses this holiday season without spending a lot of money:

  • Shop local first. Before ordering online or heading out of town, see what’s available at home.
  • Give local gifts. Find something unique, purchase a gift certificate, or give Chamber Bucks to friends, family, teachers, mail carriers, or anyone on your Christmas list.
  • Spread the word. Recommend a favorite business to a friend, share a social media post, or leave a positive review.
  • Dine local. Make plans with friends and family at a local restaurant or grab takeout for a busy holiday evening.
  • Show your appreciation. Thank a business owner or employee for the work they do and the difference they make in the community.

The Chamber noted that behind every storefront, restaurant, service provider and locally owned business are people who are also friends, family members and neighbors — people who employ local residents, support local organizations, sponsor community events, and give Fairfield and Jefferson County their unique character.

Small Business Season began in 2008 and grew into a broader movement in 2020, when communities rallied to help small businesses survive during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, the campaign continues with the mission of spotlighting local businesses and inspiring consumers to support them.
