Marvin Leroy Cumberland, 83, of Ottumwa, died at 4:50 a.m. October 28, 2023 at Serenity Hospice House in Oskaloosa.

He was born May 29, 1940 in Oelwein, IA to Merle and Mildred Streicher Cumberland. He married Sharon Holten March 5, 1960 and she preceded him in death February 25, 2020.

A 1958 graduate of Lamont High School, Marvin had served 4 years in the U.S. Air Force. He had worked several different jobs during his life and was a farmer for 34 years, retiring in 2012.

He enjoyed woodworking, cycling, hunting, singing and attending concerts. He loved spending time with family, especially all of his grandchildren.

Surviving are his children, Tyler (Crystal) Cumberland of Strawberry Point, Vonn (Glen) Gould of Ottumwa, Devin (Kathy) Cumberland of Algona; five grandchildren, Chad, Whitney, Dustin, Cory and Chloe; eight great grandchildren, Kylie, Hudson, Huxley, Ava, Sophia, Olivia, Maddie, Cooper and a great granddaughter on the way; a brother, Dennis (Rosie) Cumberland of Oelwein, a sister, Linda (Rick) Larson of Osage; a brother-in-law, Curtis (Iris) Holten of Longview, WA; a sister-in-law, Zula Bryant of Longview, WA; special friend, Carol Woker of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Alden, Bruce and Dale Holten; sisters-in-law, Deloris Sando and Gloria Schuster.

His body has been cremated and a time to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
