A former Albia soccer coach received his sentence in a 2021 case in which he inappropriately interacted with a child.

Last week, a judge sentenced 38-year-old Aaron Koester to serve up to 10 years in prison. Koester pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual abuse, a Class C felony. He was originally charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony, and two counts of third-degree sexual abuse. As per the plea deal, the other charges have been dismissed.

Koester will get credit for time served and must register as a sex offender.

In 2021, a 12-year-old informed authorities of multiple instances of illicit behavior between Koester and the child. The offenses allegedly occurred at Koester’s residence.

Koester was hired by the Albia Community School District in 2018. He remained employed by the district until his resignation in May 2021.
