The Mount Pleasant Police Department announced several arrests stemming from a fight that turned into a shooting Tuesday night.
Officials say shortly after 8:30 PM, officers were dispatched to the West Broad Street and North Jackson Street area for a call of a large fight. While en route, officers were notified of shots fired. An 18-year-old was injured in the shooting, transported to the hospital, and later released.
Police say the investigation resulted in the following arrests:
Decobi Davis, 19, formerly from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, -Reckless Use of a Firearm resulting in serious injury, a Class C felony and Participating in a Riot, an Aggravated Misdemeanor
Joseph McNeese, 19, formerly of Texas,- Participating in a Riot, an Aggravated Misdemeanor
James Williams age 21, formerly of Chicago IL- Participating in a Riot, an Aggravated Misdemeanor
De’kunta Mason Jr age 19, formerly of New Orleans, LA, -Disorderly Conduct a simple Misdemeanor
J’cauri Morris age 19, formerly of Houston, TX -Disorderly Conduct a simple Misdemeanor
Vernell Trent age 18 of Mt Pleasant – Disorderly Conduct, a simple Misdemeanor
Additionally, four local juveniles will be charged with Disorderly Conduct, a simple Misdemeanor.
The incident remains under investigation. Officials say more charges may be filed.
Due to the shooting, the Iowa Wesleyan University campus sheltered in place during the immediate aftermath. The Mount Pleasant Community School District canceled classes for Wednesday.
Authorities say there is no concern for public safety.
