An Ottumwa man was arrested based on accusations that he was high on meth while caring for a child.

41-year-old Jeremy McClurg has been charged with child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor, and public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor.

Court records say at 2:06 AM on July 2, Ottumwa police officers saw McClurg in the parking lot of the Colonial Motor Inn on Albia Road.

McClurg’s wife told police her husband had been using meth all day and talked about corpses. McClurg allegedly exhibited dilated pupils that were unresponsive to light and admitted to authorities that he used meth approximately an hour before the officers arrived.

McClurg was acting as a caretaker of a 12-year-old child without a sober adult present, according to court documents.

McClurg was taken into custody and transported to the Wapello County Jail. His bail has been set at $2,000.
