Violet Jones, 97, of Oskaloosa, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026, at the Mahaska Health Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
Violet Marie Jones, daughter of William Perry and Bessie Irene Edwards Chilcote, was born September 10, 1929, at her parents’ rural home near Bussey, Iowa. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1947. On August 22, 1948, she married the love of her life, Robert E. Jones, at the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa.
Violet and Bob made their home in Oskaloosa, where Violet was a homemaker and treasurer of Wilcox-Garland Furniture. Violet’s four sons kept her busy, and she served as Cub Scout Den Mother for all four. Violet was a member of the First Christian Church, where she served in the Ruth Circle, as a Deaconess, as a Sunday school teacher for 17 years, and as chair of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. Violet was a member and President of the Oskaloosa Women’s Club. In her spare time, she enjoyed her flowers, her church, bowling, and golfing. In her mid-90s, Violet also really enjoyed the staff, residents, and the activities at Homestead Assisted Living.
Violet’s surviving family includes her three sons: Rev. Clifford (Karen) Jones of Princeton, KY; Keith (Susan) Jones of Chanhassen, MN; and Steven (Cynthia) Jones of Portland, OR; four granddaughters: Anita Gillis, Brook Miles, Amy Jones, and Ione Jones; three grandsons: Curtis Jones, Ryan Jones, and Oscar Jones; three great-grandsons: Robert Wynn and Noah Miles; and Kenny Gillis; one great-granddaughter: Kaylah Jones. She is also survived by a sister: Virginia (Todd) Harp of Moravia; two brothers: Harry (Jean) Chilcote of Belle Plaine; and Charles (David Olson) of Missouri and Florida; and two sisters-in-law: Beverly Chilcote of Oskaloosa and Edna Chilcote of Belle Plaine.
Besides her parents, Violet was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Bob; her youngest son, Gary Jones; a great-grandson, Blake Lee Wynn; brothers: Dale Chilcote and Don Chilcote; sisters: Helen Towns and Catherine Havener; and a brother-in-law, Tom Havener.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the First Christian Church, with Reverend Molly Goodrich officiating. Burial will be in Forest Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Langkamp Funeral Chapel; the family will greet visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Memorials are recommended to the Oskaloosa First Christian Church and Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter of Oskaloosa.
