He spoke to Brownfield on Tuesday at the Iowa State Fair:
A north-central Iowa farmer says his crops are in excellent condition as the growing season enters its final stages.
Stu Swanson tells Brownfield, “We finally have turned the corner. It’s been either too dry or too wet the last few years. It’s nice to see a good crop growing out there.”
He says conditions across the state point to the potential for a strong harvest.
“Certainly there’s been some isolated areas where we’ve had some crop damage, but across the state really good crops. We’re going to do our best to produce a huge crop, and we’re asking for consumers to help purchase some of our products and hopefully find some export markets for it too.”
Swanson grows corn, soybeans and finishes feeder pigs south of Clarion in Wright County.
