Dense Fog Expected Across Van Buren County

Drivers in Van Buren County, including the Keosauqua area, should use extra caution during the early morning commute Thursday.

The National Weather Service reports that areas of fog, including some dense fog, will continue through sunrise. Visibility could drop to one-quarter mile or less at times, with the thickest fog expected in river valleys, low-lying areas and locations that received rainfall Wednesday.

Motorists should be prepared for sudden changes in visibility, particularly when traveling through low spots or wooded areas.

If you encounter dense fog, slow down, allow extra following and braking distance, and use your headlights on low beam. Drivers are encouraged to avoid using high beams, which can reflect off the fog and make visibility worse.

Forecasters expect conditions to gradually improve after about 8 a.m. Thursday.
