A memorial walk and run honoring the late Roger McHone will take place Saturday, November 1st, starting at Maasdam Barns and continuing along the Fairfield Loop Trail. Beyond serving as a tribute to a beloved Trojan coach and educator, the gathering will raise funds for Fairfield’s cross-country program.

Event organizer Ron Hunerdosse plans to begin walking at 7:30 a.m., tackling the complete 16-mile loop trail. Co-organizer Kirk Keller will start his run at 9:00 a.m. Community members are invited to join at their convenience and cover as much distance as they’re able, whether walking or running.

McHone died in April 2025. He and his wife Diane relocated to Fairfield in 1972, where he began teaching history at Fairfield High School while coaching boys’ cross-country, wrestling, and boys’ track. His coaching career continued until 2007, and he retired from teaching in 2009, the same year he concluded his service with the 34th Army Band, which he joined after arriving in Fairfield.

The event offers the community an opportunity to celebrate McHone’s legacy while supporting the cross-country program he helped build during his decades of service to Fairfield athletics.

Those wishing to participate can arrive at Maasdam Barns Saturday morning and join the walk or run in memory of Coach McHone.
