Michigan-based DF Seeds has announced it has been acquired by Lead Food Capital.

DF Seeds President Janna Fritz tells Brownfield it’s the first acquisition by the Indiana-based investment company.

“We’ve experienced organic growth over the last four to five years here with DF Seeds and this new investment with Lead Food is just the next evolution,” she shares. “There’s not going to be any sort of change to the people of DF Seeds or the products.”

DF Seeds was founded in 1969 in Dansville, Michigan, and demand for non-GMO soybeans has helped its footprint grow.

“We’ve had the opportunity more recently to expand into Wisconsin and a little bit into Minnesota and the Dakotas,” she explains. “We have further aspirations to explore partnerships, potentially in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.”

Fritz says its corn partnership with Legacy Seeds will transition to GDM following that company’s acquisition. Legacy alfalfa products will be branded as DF Alfalfa as well.
