On Thursday, November 21st the Downtown Resource Center presented to the city and public in the council chambers of city hall. The Downtown Resource Center, part of Iowa Economic Development Authority like Main Street Iowa, is dedicated to supporting downtown districts across the state through tailored assessments, resources, and best practices that contribute to strong local economies and enriched community spaces.
The DRC team spent two days in the city, conducting a series of interviews with residents and business owners, walking around town, and seeing everything that the city has to offer both positive and negative. A few of the points they discussed in the presentation such as changing the downtown and square to two way streets, fixing the sidewalks that are in disrepair, and updating business signage in the downtown area to better help visitors and shoppers find what they are looking for. A few other items they touched on included adding music throughout the downtown area and wifi access to the public.
Chamber Executive Director Mendy McAdams said, “Revitalizing downtown Fairfield is a priority for our community and we are excited to work with the Downtown Resource Center to set a path for ongoing improvement. We look forward to sharing the insights from this assessment and exploring opportunities that will strengthen our downtown for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.”
