Rex Walker, 62, of University Park, IA, passed away Monday, November 18, 2024, at Mahaska Health in Oskaloosa, IA.
Rex Allen Walker, son of Stephen and Janet (Short) Walker, was born October 10, 1962 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Growing up, Rex attended Oskaloosa School, was active in wrestling, and was a member of the Oskaloosa football team. Like many children, Rex “grew up” outside and enjoyed hunting and fishing. After his education, Rex began working in the construction industry. He married Mary Deck, and three children were born to this union. They later divorced. He continued in the construction field and, in 1993, met Jannett Thompson. The two were married in 1999 at Lake Keomah State Park.
Rex loved being with family and friends and doing anything outdoors; sharing moments while mushroom hunting, fishing, rock hunting, and looking for arrowheads were some of Rex’s fondest memories. He will always be known as a good son, husband and father.
Rex is survived by his wife, Jannett Walker of University Park, IA; children: Joseph Walker of Cedar Falls, IA, Kara Rivet of Oklahoma, Jessica McKinney of Pella, IA and Heather Piersel of Oskaloosa; his mother and father, Stephen and Janet Walker, brothers: Dennis (Deana) Walker of Rose Hill, and Eric (Lisa) Walker of Oskaloosa; 11 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Rex was preceded in death by his son, Blake Allen Walker, a brother, Glenn Walker, and his Walker and Short family grandparents.
A celebration of life gathering and service will be held from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the V.F.W. in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Langkamp Funeral Chapel is handling Rex’s arrangements.
