The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) says it’s investigating a manure spill that took place in Davis County on Tuesday.

According to the DNR, the manure release occurred near the entrance of Lake Wapello Park at 2:15 PM. A DNR office was notified that a semi tanker overturned and spilled 6,000 to 6,500 gallons of manure into a road ditch near the entrance of the park. Park staff built a dam to keep the spill contained.

The DNR says the spill had no impact to the park or Pee Dee Creek and the park remains open to visitors. No dead fish have been reported.

The manure was being hauled by Bontrager Hauling, LLC. Clean-up is underway, according to the DNR.
