Marilyn Margaret Briggs, 94, of Ottumwa, died at 12:25 p.m. July 14, 2024 at Comfort House in Pella.
She was born August 18, 1929 in Ottumwa to P. Frank and Helen Bridget Skinner Owings. Marilyn married William “Bill” Ronald Briggs on November 25, 1948 and he preceded her in death on March 17, 2021.
A 1948 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Marilyn had been a resident of Ottumwa all of her life.
She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and Altar and Rosary Society.
Surviving are her 5 sons, Terry (Jean) Briggs of Rochester, MN, William “Bill” (Julie) Briggs of Eldridge, Joe (Rose) Briggs of Monroe, Bob (Catherine) Briggs of Davenport and Dan (Laura) Briggs of Pella; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Handy of Ottumwa and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Shirley McCall; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be open at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 17th at Reece Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Wednesday followed by a Christian Wake Service at the funeral home. The family will be present following the wake service to greet friends until 7 p.m. Wednesday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18th at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Association, Upon This Rock Foundation or Comfort House in Pella.
