The Danville Community School District is deeply saddened to announce the passing of beloved teacher Mr. Bret Moews following a sudden medical emergency at school.
Yesterday, Mr. Moews experienced a medical emergency while in his classroom. Emergency medical personnel responded, and he was transported to the hospital, where medical professionals worked to provide care. Tragically, Mr. Moews passed away last night.
The loss of Mr. Moews is heartbreaking for our entire school district and the Danville community. He was an important part of our school family, and his passing leaves a tremendous void among the students, colleagues, families, and community members whose lives he touched.
“Our hearts are broken by this tremendous loss,” said Superintendent Pat Wallace. “Mr. Moews was more than a teacher. He was a valued member of our school family, and his impact on our students and colleagues will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
The district recognizes that this news may be especially difficult for students and staff, particularly those who witnessed yesterday’s events or shared a close relationship with Mr. Moews. Counselors and additional emotional support resources will be available to students and staff as they navigate this difficult time.
Families are encouraged to talk openly with their children about the loss and to contact school counselors or administrators if additional support is needed. The district remains committed to ensuring that no student or staff member has to navigate this loss alone.
The Danville Community School District asks the community to keep the Moews family, friends, students, and colleagues in their thoughts as they grieve. In the days and weeks ahead, our school community will come together to support one another, honor Mr. Moews’ memory, and reflect on the lasting impact he had on those around him.
Danville is a close-knit community, and while this loss is deeply felt, we know the compassion and strength of our school family will help carry us through this difficult time.
