An Ottumwa man is accused of stealing meat from a local store and hiding the stolen items in an unconventional location before walking out of the business without paying.
Dillon Cook, 29, was charged with third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Court records say on September 21st, Cook walked into the Fareway on Albia Road in Ottumwa and ordered from the meat market. After receiving his order, Cook allegedly placed the items in his pants and walked out of the store without paying.
According to court documents, the value of the stolen meat did not exceed $750 but due to a pair of prior theft convictions, Cook received an upgraded charge of third-degree theft related to the above incident.
Cook was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail where he is being held on a $2,000 bond.
Cook has a preliminary hearing scheduled for October 9th.
