Iowa Fall Color Offers Chance to Get Outdoors

As autumn settles across Iowa, cooler temperatures and changing leaves are inviting residents to get outdoors and enjoy the season.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says spending time outside can benefit both physical and mental health. Outdoor activities can encourage movement, reduce stress and provide an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with nature and recharge.

Fall also offers plenty of opportunities for families and visitors to enjoy Iowa’s changing landscape. Communities across the state are hosting fall festivals and seasonal events, while apple orchards, parks, trails and other outdoor destinations provide ways to experience the colors of the season.

Whether you’re taking a scenic drive, walking a local trail, visiting an apple orchard or attending a community fall festival, the DNR encourages Iowans to take advantage of the season and spend some time outdoors.

Fall color conditions vary across Iowa and can change quickly as temperatures and weather conditions change.
