Drivers traveling on Highway 149 north of Sigourney should expect intermittent lane closures through September 24th as road construction work gets underway in Keokuk County, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation.

The construction zone runs between Highway 92 near Sigourney and Highway 22 near Webster, a stretch of approximately 8.8 miles. Work began Monday, August 31st at 7:00 a.m. and is expected to wrap up by approximately 1:00 p.m. on September 24th, weather permitting.

The Highway 149 project is one of four active Iowa DOT road projects currently underway in Keokuk County. As Ottumwa Radio previously reported, Iowa 92 near Delta closed Monday, August 31st for culvert replacement work and is expected to remain closed through mid-October, with a detour in place using Iowa 21, East 6th Street in Delta, and Keokuk County Road V-33. A second Highway 92 project is also underway across the Keokuk-Washington County line near West Chester, where intermittent lane closures and a pilot car are in operation through September 10th. Additionally, Iowa 78 between County Road V63 west of Richland and Highway 1 near Richland remains closed for a bridge replacement project through mid-September, with a detour in operation and permitted oversize loads prohibited.
