Lawrence “Larry” Christopher Schmitt, age 84, of Albia, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia, under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice.
Larry was born on February 10, 1942, in Decorah, IA, to Leo and Jeanette (Rilling) Schmitt. He grew up attending school in Decorah before moving to Albia. Larry married Armadine Waters on June 1, 1963, in Lovilia, IA. Larry and Armadine shared 63 years of marriage prior to Larry’s passing.
Larry worked for CJ Stocker before going to work for Duea Chevrolet where he worked for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, and arrowhead hunting. He enjoyed traveling to different places in the United States, with Colorado being one of he and Armadine’s favorite places to visit. Larry also loved his poodles, Pepe, Miss Fancy Misty Ann, Tilly May Bell, and Sophie Rose.

Larry is survived by his wife, Armadine; and his nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Jeanette and his brother, Jerry Schmitt.
Per Larry’s wishes, a private burial was held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia and no formal services are planned.
