Iowans Invited to Help State Parks

Iowans will have an opportunity to give back to their state parks and forests during the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ annual statewide Volunteer Day on Saturday, September 26.

Several state parks and forests across Iowa will host volunteer projects aimed at improving trails, buildings and other park facilities.

Projects will vary by location and could include picking up litter, painting or staining buildings, planting trees, clearing trails and other maintenance work.

Mike Cox, chief of the Iowa Parks, Forests and Preserves Bureau, says volunteers play an important role in helping maintain the places Iowans enjoy throughout the year.

Anyone interested in taking part can find more information and locate a participating park by visiting the Iowa DNR’s volunteer opportunities page at iowadnr.gov/volunteer.
