Della May Glaspie, 96, of Keota, formerly of Washington, died Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the Harvest Acres Nursing and Rehab in Keota.
Funeral services have been set for 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington, with Pastor Rick Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the funeral home, with family present from 5-7:00 PM. A general memorial in the name of Della May Glaspie has been established.
Della May Glaspie was born May 9, 1930 in Olympia, Washington to William Henry and Ella Mae (Leep) Petty. Della was united in marriage to Carl LaVerne Glaspie, with whom they were blessed with six children; Glenn, Corrine, Sharon, Karl, Lonnie, and Jeff.
Della was truly defined by her hard work and perseverance through life’s challenges, which she was able to instill in her children, who were her greatest joy and accomplishment. She was a devoted mother and homemaker for many years before joining the workforce in 1983 where she worked as a cook at Pearl’s Café in Keota and later moving to Washington, Iowa, where she worked at the UP home until she retired at the age of 80. Throughout the years, Della enjoyed spending time with her children and special friend Larry Freeze. Della and Larry had numerous
adventures, including multiple trips to Sturgis with the motorcycle, going out to eat to their favorite restaurants, visiting family and keeping up to date with the latest news in the “National Enquirer.”
Della is survived by her six children; Glenn Glaspie of West Chester, Corrine McCulley of Washington, Sharon (Fritz) Engel of Brighton, Karl (Mary) Glaspie of North English, Lonnie of Mt. Union and Jeff (Danielle) Glaspie of Brighton, grandchildren Nicole (Heath) Huggins, Kris Freel, Melissa McCulley, Patricia (John) Carroll, Kerry Engel, Kyla (John) Nevins, Kristen Engel, Katie (Ethan) O’Donnell, Fritz (Jessica) Engel, Tyler (Bryan) Bayliss, Morgan (Alex) Weber, Derek Glaspie, Devyn (Cole Watson) Glaspie, Sarah (Jesse Jondle) Glaspie, Justin (Alissa) Glaspie as well as 31 great grandchildren and sister Norma Luquette of Chandler Arizona.
Della is preceded in death by her parents, late husband Carl, sister Verna Joe, half-sister Cecilia, half-brother Lawrence, special friend Larry Freeze, son-in-law Rick McCulley, great grandchildren Brooklyn Hyatt and Jeremy Nevins.
