Deanna Charlene Toomire Dodson, 82, of Ottumwa, formerly of Albia died at 5:10 a.m. September 6, 2026 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
She was born November 6, 1943 in Ottumwa to Leo and Lucille Barnhart Toomire. She married Larry Dodson November 15, 1978 and he preceded her in death October 6, 2025.
A 1961 graduate of Hedrick High School, Deanna worked as a pharmacy tech for 14 years in Ottumwa and Albia. She ran a farm service station in Illinois for 4 years, retiring from Cargill in Eddyville as a security guard in 2005.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ottumwa.
Deanna enjoyed playing volleyball, fishing, going to the casino and going to garage sales. She and Larry enjoyed hunting together, as they both enjoyed spending time outdoors. They also enjoyed playing cards together at the American Legion. She enjoyed being on the pit crew for Larry’s stock car racing team. Deanna and Larry had a shared love for animals.
Surviving are her children, Kelly Dodson (Michael Keegan), Kevin Feehan, Kimberly (John) Dennis and Mike (Kim) Rodgers; 4 grandchildren, Kolter Feehan, Kody Feehan, Alyssa Rodgers and Josie Butchee; many great grandchildren; a brother, Gerald “Jerry” Toomire; 2 sisters-in-law, Marla Toomire and Kitti Toomire; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kyle Dodson; a sister, Donna Carruthers; and 2 brothers, Robert “Bob” Toomire and James “Jim” Toomire.
Visitation will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, September 9th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday September 10th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating.
Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.
