Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting a daylong food preservation workshop on September 26th for anyone interested in learning safe techniques for preserving fresh foods and building confidence in home food storage.

The Great Food Preservation Workshop will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Wapello County Extension Office, located at 13011 120th Avenue in Ottumwa. The workshop is hosted by ISU Extension and Outreach serving Davis, Jefferson, Van Buren, and Wapello counties and is open to participants from any county.

The morning session will cover food safety, preservation equipment, and best practices for stocking pantries and freezers. In the afternoon, participants will take part in a hands-on session focused on one of three preservation methods — pressure canning, hot water bath canning, or dehydration and freezing — selected at the time of registration.

Registration is $50 per participant. Youth ages 16 and under attending with an adult may register as a pair for $65. Lunch is included with registration. A Blue Ball Canning Book is also available for purchase at the event for $17. Space is limited and the registration deadline is September 16th. Participants who cancel after that date will not be eligible for a refund.

To register, visit go.iastate.edu/F2MKXH. For more information, contact the Jefferson County Extension Office at 641-472-4166 or xjefferson@iastate.edu.
