Severe Weather Threat Eases Across Iowa Tuesday

The threat for severe weather across Iowa is expected to diminish Tuesday, although scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain possible throughout much of the day.

According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, a few storms could still become severe. Damaging wind gusts are the primary concern, while isolated heavy rainfall and some hail are also possible.

Much of Iowa is under a Marginal Risk, or Level 1 of 5, for severe weather Tuesday. The southern half of the state faces a Slight Risk for heavy rainfall, with repeated showers and thunderstorms potentially producing locally heavy rain.

The National Weather Service says storms will be scattered at times during the day, so residents should remain weather-aware and be prepared for changing conditions.

The latest weather briefing is available from the National Weather Service Des Moines. Additional severe-weather information is available through the NWS Des Moines severe weather page, while updated hydrologic information can be found on the NWS Des Moines hydrology page.
