Lake Red Rock Beaches Closed to Swimming

Swimming is currently not recommended at Lake Red Rock’s North Overlook Beach and Whitebreast Beach due to elevated bacterial counts.

As of Tuesday, both beaches have been posted with “Swimming Not Recommended” signs. The advisory will remain in place until additional testing indicates bacteria levels have returned to a safe level.

Beach water samples are collected weekly by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers through a contract with Iowa State University. The testing is conducted to monitor bacterial levels and help protect the health and safety of visitors.

Visitors are encouraged to follow the posted advisories and avoid swimming at North Overlook Beach and Whitebreast Beach until the “Swimming Not Recommended” signs are removed.

Additional testing will determine when swimming can once again be recommended at the affected beaches.
