The Iowa National Guard is looking ahead to the next generation of military operations as new technology and evolving threats reshape the nation’s defense strategy.
Leaders from across Iowa gathered at the 132d Wing in Des Moines for a legislative outreach event that brought together government officials, military leaders and private-sector representatives. The event provided an opportunity to discuss the Guard’s role in preparing for future missions.
Maj. Gen. Stephen Osborn, Iowa’s adjutant general, joined Army and Air National Guard leaders in outlining the changes taking place across the force. Discussions included Army modernization, air superiority and the growing importance of unmanned aerial systems and other emerging aircraft technologies.
The 132d Wing also demonstrated its cyber capabilities, giving visitors a firsthand look at how Iowa Guard personnel use technology to support military operations and protect critical systems.
Officials say continued cooperation between the military, government and private sector will be important as Iowa prepares for increasingly technology-driven missions.
The Iowa National Guard has continued to expand its focus on cyber operations, modernization and partnerships as it prepares its soldiers and airmen for changing demands.
