Firefighters responded to the Super 8 hotel in Knoxville late Monday night after smoke was reported coming from the second floor.

The Knoxville Fire Department was called to the hotel at approximately 10:55 p.m. Crews quickly located a fire inside the ceiling of a second-floor bathroom and requested additional resources to assist with the response.

Firefighters entered the affected room and extinguished the blaze before it could spread beyond the area where it started. The fire was determined to have originated with a bathroom exhaust fan.

All occupants were located and confirmed safe. Firefighters ventilated the building to remove smoke and other combustion products before conducting an overhaul of the structure.

The room where the fire began sustained both fire and smoke damage, while smoke damage was reported throughout other portions of the hotel.

Marion County Emergency Management assisted with finding alternate accommodations for the affected guest.

The Knoxville Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Knoxville Police, Knoxville Rural Fire Department, Pella EMS, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Emergency Management Agency, Alliant Energy and MidAmerican Energy.
