An Agency man already facing harassment charges is now facing two additional charges after allegedly sending threatening messages to the victim who reported him.
Charles Boos, 52, has been charged with Tampering with a Witness, an aggravated misdemeanor, and Harassment in the Second Degree, a serious misdemeanor. Boos is currently being held on a $5,000 cash-only bond in the new case, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 24th.
According to court documents, Boos sent two messages to the victim just days after being taken into custody and served with a protection order in the original harassment case. The messages — “You snitch a** b**** you got me locked up” and “Expect someone to collect on that” — were sent the day after Boos was released from custody. Court documents state the messages were intended to retaliate against the victim for reporting the original criminal offense and cooperating with law enforcement. The documents also note Boos has a history of violence or intimidation toward the victim.
As Ottumwa Radio previously reported, the original charges against Boos stem from a series of threatening Facebook messages sent to the victim on July 3rd and 4th, 2026, including messages that referenced her three-year-old daughter in a sexually threatening manner and told her to take her own life. The incident was not reported to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office until July 18th, and Boos was booked on July 26th on a charge of Harassment in the First Degree, an aggravated misdemeanor. He posted a $3,000 surety bond in that case on July 29th. The two additional messages that form the basis of the new charges were sent on July 30th.
Boos also faces a Contempt — Violation of No Contact/Protective Order charge in connection with the original case, stemming from the same messages that led to the new tampering and harassment charges. His arraignment in the original case was scheduled for August 14th, at which time a written not guilty plea was entered and a pretrial conference was set for August 25th. A jury trial is scheduled for October 6th. Also on August 14th, a separate order was filed resetting bond in the original case to $30,000 cash only.
