A southeast Iowa man was arrested after police say he brandished a knife at another man on Sunday.
51-year-old James Davis of Oskaloosa was charged with assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor, and possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, first offense, a serious misdemeanor.
The Oskaloosa Police Department says it received a call at approximately 7:00 PM on July 19th from a person who told officers an unknown male, later identified as Davis, wielded a black folding knife at him near a residence on C Avenue West in Oskaloosa.
Court records say officers located a man matching Davis’ description on the 300 block of North D Street. Davis allegedly ignored commands from law enforcement and attempted to walk away. According to the criminal complaint, Davis reached into his pockets and was ordered to the ground. Police say Davis pulled the knife from his pocket and dropped it on the ground. Davis was searched and a glass smoking device containing a white residue was allegedly discovered in his right jean pocket.
Davis was taken into custody and transported to the Mahaska County Jail, where he is being held on a $3,000 bond. Davis has been ordered not to have any contact with the alleged victim.
