Keokuk County is asking residents to complete a brief survey as part of a collaborative effort to secure federal funding for bridge replacement projects across Iowa, according to a notice from the Keokuk County Engineer’s office.
The U.S. Department of Transportation will award up to $350 million in Competitive Highway Bridge Program grants in 2026 to support critical infrastructure projects nationwide. The Iowa DOT, Keokuk County, and more than 20 other counties and cities are jointly applying for a share of that funding to replace 32 bridges currently rated in poor condition across the state. If awarded, the projects would improve safety, strengthen community connections, and support freight and agricultural movement.
The short survey asks residents about how they use existing bridges, their views on current conditions, and their thoughts on proposed improvements including wider lanes, safer travel conditions, and the ability to carry heavier loads.
