The Blakesburg Historical Preservation Society will present “Where’s Floppy? Celebrating an Iowa Television Icon” on Sunday, July 26, at 1:30 p.m. at the Blakesburg Christian Church, 203 West Oak Street.
For three decades, Duane Ellett and his beloved puppet, Floppy the beagle, delighted generations of Iowa children through “The Floppy Show” on WHO-TV13 and appearances at the Iowa State Fair. The program became a treasured part of growing up in Iowa. For many young fans, asking, “Where’s Floppy?” and wearing a Floppy T-shirt were cherished parts of the experience.
The nostalgic program will be presented by Iowa broadcaster and historian Jeff Stein, who will share the story of one of Iowa’s most beloved television personalities. Stein is the author of The Floppy Show (Images of America) and the producer of four DVDs featuring highlights from the original television series. Copies of the book and DVDs will be available for purchase following the presentation.
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served following the program.
