ATVs and UTVs will be permitted on city streets in Mt. Pleasant beginning Thursday, July 2nd, according to a social media post from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
Owners must register their ATV or UTV through the Recorder’s office at the Henry County Courthouse. The Mt. Pleasant Police Department noted that registrations are not handled at the police department, which only deals with golf cart registrations.
Several rules and regulations apply to the operation of ATVs, UTVs, and golf carts on city streets. ATVs and UTVs are not permitted on Washington Street or Grand Avenue. Operators must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a slow-moving vehicle sign displayed on their vehicle.
All ATVs, UTVs, and golf carts may only operate on city streets from one-half hour after sunrise to one-half hour before sunset, and may not be operated when weather conditions reduce visibility to less than 500 feet.
Passengers must remain seated in manufacturer-provided seats at all times while the vehicle is in operation, and the number of passengers may not exceed the number intended by the manufacturer.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department noted that these are just a few of the applicable rules and regulations, and encouraged drivers to operate their vehicles safely and responsibly.
