“Very, very, very disappointed”: Iowa Pork CEO reacts to Prop 12 omission

The CEO of the Iowa Pork Producers Association is dismayed that Proposition 12 language was not included in the Senate Ag Committee draft farm bill.

“Very, very, very disappointed.”

That was Pat McGonegle’s reaction to Senate Ag Committee chair John Boozman omitting Prop 12 from the text.

He tells Brownfield Iowa Pork will keep applying pressure to ensure there’s a legislative fix for California’s livestock confinement rule.

“Otherwise, pork producers in Iowa, particularly family farms, have to face a patchwork of regulations. And they’re already facing regulations within the state, but now to do 50 state patchwork just makes it untenable.”

McGonegle says Iowa’s congressional delegation has been supportive of addressing Prop 12 and that leadership will be critical as farm bill negotiations proceed.
