Two Injured in Crash Involving Semi-Trailer and Car Near Mount Pleasant

Two people were injured Tuesday afternoon in a crash involving a semi-trailer and a passenger car near Mount Pleasant, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:44 p.m. on June 9th at the intersection of US Highway 218 southbound and 170th Street. According to the report, a 2008 Mack semi-trailer operated by Ideal Ready Mix Co. Inc. of West Burlington was traveling westbound on 170th Street and crossing the southbound lanes of Highway 218 when a 2000 Chevrolet Impala struck the trailer. The semi came to rest on the shoulder of 170th Street while the Impala came to rest in the southbound lanes of Highway 218. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Further investigation is pending by the Iowa State Patrol.

Two occupants were injured in the crash. Both were wearing seatbelts, and the crash report notes that seatbelt use is credited with saving the life of each injured person. One was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital by Henry County Ambulance, and the second was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital by Medforce. Names were withheld from the crash report.

The crash was investigated by the Iowa State Patrol, and was assisted by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Henry County Ambulance.
