Southeast Iowa Under Flood Watch

Residents across southeast Iowa should remain alert overnight as the threat of flash flooding continues through 10 a.m. Monday.

The National Weather Service says heavy rainfall moving north out of Missouri is expected to impact the region overnight, bringing the potential for excessive runoff and localized flooding. Areas near rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying locations are most vulnerable.

Officials warn that smaller waterways could quickly rise out of their banks, while low-water crossings and flood-prone roads may become covered with water. Ponding on roadways is also possible, creating hazardous travel conditions for anyone out overnight or during the Monday morning commute.

Drivers are urged to use caution and never attempt to drive through flooded roadways. Conditions can change rapidly, especially during periods of heavy rain. Residents are encouraged to stay informed by monitoring forecasts and stream conditions as the weather situation develops.
