With a skip in our hearts but a smile on our faces, we celebrate the vibrant life of June Kasper, who was born in Prairie City, IA to Lawrence and Elsie Mae (Vos) Land the 18th of February, 1947. She married David George Kasper on October 17, 1964 in Des Moines at Visitation Catholic Church. June was a farm wife like no other, a master multitasker who could run every piece of farm machinery with raking hay being her favorite, except she refused to drive the semi! Her well known famous homemade bread would often fetch hundreds at auction. If anyone left June’s table hungry, as she often said, it was their own damn fault. She was a fabulous cook, a wonderful seamstress, and an avid gardener. Her passion for life was infectious, and her love for her family was as boundless as the Iowa plains.
June was a woman of many talents and interests. When she wasn’t working at the FSA office or maintaining the family farm, she found joy in quilting, sewing, fishing, and gardening. Her love for the holidays was legendary, especially Christmas, which she celebrated with an enthusiasm that could rival Santa’s. She collected nativity scenes, meticulously wrapped presents, and ensured that every gift was perfectly balanced down to the last cent. This love for Christmas stemmed from her childhood when times were tough. She vowed when she got married that Christmas would always be special, and she certainly made sure of that. June was also a fan of March Madness, recording games to watch later and forbidding anyone from spoiling the results before she had a chance to watch. Her energy was boundless, her spirit indomitable, and her laughter infectious.
While June wasn’t born Catholic, her faith was as strong as any born into the faith. She converted upon marriage and was an active member of her home parish in Weller. She took pride in maintaining the cemetery and family graves, her commitment reflecting her deep love for her family and her faith. Beyond her hobbies and work, June was a woman of immense love. Her hugs were legendary, her love for her children limitless, and her devotion to her family unwavering. She was a woman who worked for everyone else besides herself, a testament to her selflessness and dedication.
She is survived by her husband, Dave Kasper; three children, Tim Kasper, Tammy (Leo) Adams; Teri Kasper; four grandchildren, Wyatt Adams, Ali Adams, Jenna (Ryan) Carrel, and Savannah Adams; siblings, Mary Lou (Fred) Illingworth, and Chuck Land. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Elsie Mae Land; sister, Barb Franklin, and mother and father-in-law, John and Leona Kasper.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Melrose with Father Ron Hodges and Deacon Edwin Kamerick officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Weller. Visitation on Tuesday, opening to the public at 3:00 p.m., with family present from 4-7 p.m., at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. A rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to St. Mary’s Cemetery in Weller.
