An Ottumwa woman is facing felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly assaulting a protected party while violating a no-contact order.
According to a criminal complaint, officers with the Ottumwa Police Department were dispatched at approximately 5:24 p.m. on June 25 to the intersection of North Quincy Avenue and Sherwood Drive following a report of an assault.
Court documents allege that Michelle Brown, 36, of Ottumwa, was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by the victim when she began physically assaulting the driver. Brown is accused of repeatedly kicking and striking the victim while the vehicle was in motion. The alleged assault was witnessed by several passersby.
Authorities say Brown was also in violation of a valid no-contact order, in which she is listed as the defendant and the victim is the protected party. The most recent no-contact order was issued on April 15, 2026.
According to court records, the victim suffered bodily injuries, including redness, scratches, and a hematoma on the head.
Brown was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail, where she was held on a $5,000 cash/surety bond.
A new no-contact order was issued on June 26. Brown’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 2.
Brown is charged with Assault Committed by a Person Against Whom a Protective Order Is Issued, a Class D felony, Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Bodily Injury – First Offense, a serious misdemeanor and Violation of No contact/protective order Simple misdemeanor
